How to Overwrite Passives in Palworld

The Surgery Table is a fantastic addition to Palworld, introduced in the Tides of Terraria Update. Unlocked at level 36 using 3 Technology Points, this new workbench allows you to modify the passives of any Pal in exchange for coins, allowing you to remove passives you don’t like and replace them with something more useful, as long as you can pay the fee.

The Surgery Table also allows players to change the gender of their Pals in Palworld, as long as they have a special item sold by certain NPCs, which is handy if you’re trying to breed more of a certain Pal.

Before you can use a Surgery Table, you’ll need to unlock it in the technology menu. It can be unlocked at level 36 for 3 Technology Points, but you’ll also need to be able to make refined ingots and high-quality cloth to assemble it. You’ll need the Improved Furnace (unlocked at level 34) to make refined ingots, which are created using 2 ore and 2 coal per bar. Making high-quality cloth requires you to unlock it at level 36 for 2 technology points, and then craft it on a High-Quality Workbench using 10 pieces of cloth.

You’ll need 30 Refined Ingots and 20 pieces of High-Quality Cloth to make the Surgery Table, which means you’ll need a total of 60 ore, 60 coal, and 200 pieces of cloth, assuming you’re making all the materials from scratch. You can also farm High-Quality Cloth from Sibelyx, if you don’t want to make it yourself.

The Surgery Table, once built in your base, can be used to add or replace passives on your Pals. When you select a Pal in the Surgery Table Menu, you can click on any of their passives, or on an empty passive slot, to open a list of passives. For a fee (ranging from 10000 to 50000 coins), you can put any one of the passives in that list into the slot you selected, replacing any passive that was already in that slot. While plenty of options are available by default, you can actually unlock even more passives in the list by acquiring special implant items.

The Artisan, Burly Body, and Musclehead implants can all be purchased from Vigilante Bounty Officers, which you can find at most of the game’s NPC settlements. Meanwhile, the Runner, Infinite Stamina, and Serenity implants can be purchased from the Arena Merchant, found at the eastern edge of the map, south of the Desert Tower. Purchasing a single implant of each type will permanently unlock that passive for use at the Surgery Table, making these a very worthwhile investment.
