A World of Warcraft fan took to social media to share a cosplay they created of Xal’atath, the popular antagonist of The War Within expansion. The World of Warcraft player used a mix of purple, black, and gold fabrics for the design of their Xal’atath cosplay, and other fans complimented them for their handiwork and attention to detail.
An entity from the Void, Xal’atath first appeared in World of Warcraft: Legion as a voice sealed within a powerful dagger. The weapon in question was dubbed Xal’atath, Blade of the Black Empire, and it was the artifact weapon that Shadow Priests could wield in the Broken Isles. During the main story of Battle for Azeroth, Xal’atath possessed the body of an elven woman and freed herself from the Black Blade of the Empire as part of a bargain with the Old God N’Zoth. Xalatath would not appear again until The War Within, where she used an artifact called the Dark Heart to wreak havoc across the Isle of Dorn.

World of Warcraft offers players a glimpse of what they can purchase at the Trading Post throughout July, including a new mount and various ensembles.
As players learn more about Xal’atath’s backstory during The War Within, a World of Warcraft fan chose the popular villain as their latest cosplay subject. On the official WoW subreddit, a Reddit user named Lizaelios assembled a cosplay of Xal’atath and shared the finished product with a picture. Lizelos stated that the photo was taken and edited by Aster Shade. The Xal’atath cosplay featured her outfit from The War Within, which consisted of black robes adorned with golden edges, blue orbs on the belt, and purple gauntlets. Xal’atath’s cloak featured a cosmic pattern adorned with stars on a purple and blue drape, and two black shoulder pads were attached on each side. The Xal’atath cosplay also featured the character’s purple hair, blue lipstick, and darkened eyes. Features such as Xal’atath’s pale purple skin tone were added via photo editing.

To go with the Xal’atath cosplay, Lizaelios held a Dark Heart replica prop in her right hand, similar to the one that was used to destroy the neutral city of Dalaran during the start of The War Within‘s campaign. In response, some WoW players complimented Lizaelios for the attention to detail in Xal’atath’s design, while others made references to The War Within‘s story and Xal’atath’s role in it.
Although Xal’atath remains the main villain of The War Within, she will continue to have a role to play in World of Warcraft‘s upcoming Midnight expansion. Only time will tell how Xal’atath’s story will play out through the rest of the Worldsoul Saga.
