First-party Nintendo games seldom go on sale, which is why it tends to be fairly big news on the rare occasions that they do. The Nintendo Store summer sale offers some of the biggest discounts in recent memory, with a wide selection of both first and third-party offerings included.

Super Mario Odyssey offers unparalleled platforming and an endless amount of content for players to sink their teeth into. The introduction of Cappy not only allows players to take control of countless creatures but also provides new movement options for Mario as players traverse the game’s wonderfully well-crafted worlds. Whether they’re using Cappy to extend a jump or bounce off a wall, the helpful hat adds new layers of depth to an already fantastic formula.

2

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury

$39.99 $59.99 (Save 33%)

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury may not offer much in the way of innovation, but it doesn’t disappoint in the platforming department either. Unlike some of the other 3D Mario games that were ported to the Switch, 3D World still holds up perfectly well, with Bowser’s Fury providing a compelling reason for players to come back for another bite of the apple. If your choice is between Super Mario Odyssey and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, you should definitely spring for the former, but if you have the budget for both, $39.99 is a pretty decent price.

Luigi’s Mansion 2 is arguably the best game in the series, with the 3DS version boasting an impressive 86 average on Metacritic. Sadly, the 2024 Switch port didn’t introduce any new content or major quality-of-life upgrades, but it did improve the visuals quite a bit. If you already played the game on the 3DS, you can probably skip this one, but if you’re delving into the world of Dark Moon for the very first time, this is absolutely the best way to experience it, and at a reasonable price to boot.

There probably aren’t too many Switch owners who don’t already own a copy of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but if you happen to be one of them, now is probably the best time to pull the trigger. At just $41.99, you’re getting yourself countless hours worth of content; more still if you’re a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscriber, thanks to the inclusion of the Happy Home Paradise DLC. If you’re not, you can pick up a bundle that includes the base game and the DLC for $59.48, which is also a 30% saving.

$41.99 $59.99 (Save 30%)

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is arguably the most underrated Zelda game of all time. It’s a remake of the 1993 Game Boy game of the same name, with developer Grezzo doing a fantastic job of updating the timeless classic for a modern audience. Some might not be completely sold on the art style, but the gameplay and story are top-notch, making this a must-play for any serious action-adventure game fan.

Nintendo Switch Sports was never going to recapture the success of Wii Sports, but few could have predicted just how far from the mark the 2022 title would end up landing at launch. Thankfully, in the years since, the game has received numerous updates, with several new sports being added in the process. As of early 2025, Nintendo Switch Sports had sold over 16 million units, making it one of the best-selling Switch games of all time.

Annually released sports sim franchises don’t have the best reputation when it comes to their Switch ports, and NBA 2K25 is no exception. The visuals and gameplay are nowhere near as good as they are on other platforms, making it a tough one to recommend at full price. For $8.99, though, NBA 2K25 becomes a much more attractive proposition, particularly for those who plan on playing it on the Switch 2. There’s no performance patch or anything like that, but players can still expect a slightly smoother experience thanks to the new console’s more powerful processor.

Although not quite on the same level as its 2018 prequel, Red Dead Redemption is still a fantastic game. Being able to experience it while on the go only sweetens the deal, especially when the deal in question is a massive 40%. Of all of the third-party offerings in the Nintendo summer sale, this is one of the ones that stands out most, so if you haven’t already played it and are looking to get a taste of life during the decline of the Old West, now is the perfect time to do so.

BioShock: The Collection

$9.99 $49.99 (Save 80%)

What could be better than one of the best RPGs of all time? Well, how about three of them, and at a fraction of the cost? BioShock: The Collection gives players the opportunity to experience the iconic video game trilogy in 1080p at 60fps, and for just $9.99, it’s quite possibly the best deal in the Nintendo summer sale.

There are plenty of great indie games on the Nintendo Switch, but few have had quite as much of an impact as Hades. The 2020 roguelike boasts an incredible 93 rating on Metacritic, placing it within the top ten Switch games on the site. $8.74 is a fantastic price for a game of this quality, especially as there’s still no word on when exactly Hades 2 will be coming to Switch and Switch 2.
