Gamer Whose House Burned Down Has Surprising Nintendo Switch Discovery

A gamer who went through the terrible tragedy of losing their home to a house fire was shocked to discover that their Nintendo Switch made it through largely unscathed. The find has surprised fellow Switch owners, but it’s strangely not without precedent for Nintendo.

While most electronics require a certain amount of care and caution to ensure that they work properly, the original Nintendo Game Boy has a bizarre story of survival connected to it. During the Gulf War of the 1990s, a Nintendo Game Boy was caught in an explosion that left it severely charred and melted. However, miraculously, the Gulf War Game Boy actually still worked, and until recently, was on display at the Nintendo Store in New York City. While an impressive situation, few likely expected the same to happen with a modern console.

‘More Elusive Than the Console Itself’ Switch 2 Gamers Are Having a Hard Time Finding One of Its Most Useful Accessories

While the Nintendo Switch 2 is hard to come by for some gamers, others report that one of the system’s accessories is even harder to find.

On Reddit, user Whitewolf255 shared a post stating that they’d lost their house to a fire, but not their Switch, with a photo of the device. The image shows that the Switch has seen better days, with some scorch marks and discoloration, but it still works, with the user’s game library visible on the screen. Whitewolf255 explained that their Nintendo Switch had been in its dock when the fire broke out. While the Nintendo Switch dock was destroyed, the Switch somehow still works. Unfortunately, as the photo and comments from the OP reveal, the rest of their home was a total loss, and the vast majority of their belongings have been destroyed. Thankfully, everyone in their home made it out safely.

Nintendo Fans Shocked by Switch’s Survival

Plenty of users have come out of the woodwork to share their sympathies with the OP, as well as their surprise at the fate of their Switch. One user referenced the legendary Gulf War Game Boy, saying that the “War veteran Great Grandpa” Game Boy would be proud of its successor. Others shared messages of caution, urging Whitewolf255 to get the device inspected, as the soot from the fire or the extreme heat could have damaged the internals. Some suggested checking the battery in particular for swelling, as swollen batteries can cause fires of their own.

Stunningly, this isn’t the first Nintendo Switch to survive a house fire. Another gamer in June revealed that they had a house fire break out that incinerated nearly everything in the room it started in. However, their Nintendo Switch also somehow survived. In that instance, the top of the console suffered the most, with melted plastic dripping down over the upper edge of the screen. Nonetheless, they showed off their game library functioning on the device as well, impressing gamers.
