At the moment, FromSoftware feels like it’s moving into its next era of game releases. Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls established its Soulslike formula, games around Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne‘s time perfected it, and Elden Ring took things to the next level while leaving room for smaller projects like Armored Core 6 and Elden Ring Nightreign to try their own thing. Where the esteemed Japanese studio will go after The Duskbloods isn’t yet known, but even with highly acclaimed titles like Bloodborne and Elden Ring behind it, FromSoftware is showing no signs of slowing down.
That’s not to say FromSoftware’s older IPs are out of the picture, either. Dark Souls and Elden Ring are both bona fide series in the studio’s catalog, and as Elden Ring Nightreign‘s use of bosses from both indicates, they are still relevant. Alongside Sony’s resurrection of Demon’s Souls for the PlayStation 5 and the occasional Bloodborne merchandise, it seems like a number of FromSoftware’s Souls games are here to stay, even if the attention that they get will vary. This is already visible in a potential commonality between Elden Ring and Bloodborne, but how much will come of this relationship is another matter.

How Bloodborne and Elden Ring Explore Themes of Fatherhood and Motherhood
Elden Ring and Bloodborne have deep and interesting lore that deserves attention, much of which touches on both fatherhood and motherhood.
Elden Ring and Bloodborne’s Movie Adaptations Are In Very Different States
Only one has been confirmed so far, but Bloodborne and Elden Ring may both have live-action movies in the works. Elden Ring’s film was recently announced with Alex Garland writing and directing, and Elden Ring’s preliminary lore writer, George R. R. Martin, returning as producer. Whether the film will actually reach theaters is still up in the air, as video game movies have a tendency to stall out for years and end up canceled, but having FromSoftware and Bandai Namco onboard, as well as Elden Ring being a lucrative name, could see it through.
Bloodborne’s Movie Is Hanging On By A Thread
Even more up in the air is the concept of a Bloodborne movie. Owing to its popularity and lack of news, there have been a lot of rumors surrounding Bloodborne over the past few years, including ones suggesting a remaster, a remake, a PC port, and more. One that appeared as early as 2023 was a live-action Bloodborne movie, though it has since seen multiple insider confirmations. Reported most recently by DanielRPK, who goes by ScreenTime on Twitter, the Bloodborne film is supposedly still in development, though without a director onboard. That’s not great news after so long, and the movie’s future prospects don’t look good, either.
The Momentum Elden Ring Has Enjoyed Isn’t There For Bloodborne
Just because it looks like Elden Ring and Bloodborne have similar plans for live-action cinematic adaptations doesn’t mean they’re going to pan out in the same way. Elden Ring has obviously already pulled out ahead, being a confirmed project with two names in important roles attached. It is comforting to have leakers reiterate that Sony is doing something with the Bloodborne IP, but as alluded to earlier, this project is already in danger of joining countless cinematic game adaptations in development hell, followed by a quiet cancellation years down the line.
What really makes Elden Ring and Bloodborne‘s relationships uneven here isn’t the status of their respective movies; it’s the status of their names in general. Although Bloodborne did get its Old Hunters DLC and a noteworthy comic run back in the day, its future looks bleak and devoid of projects. Meanwhile, Elden Ring has had Shadows of the Erdtree as a massive DLC expansion and Elden Ring Nightreign as a spin-off, both staggered years apart.
