How to Upgrade Backback Battery in Death Stranding 2

All of the cool equipment in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is battery-powered, so you can only use skeletons and other similar items for a limited-time before running out of juice. Thankfully, you can install extra battery attachments onto your backpack, but you’ll need to find upgrades to squeeze the most power out of your batteries.

Even if you don’t use powered gear in Death Stranding 2, battery upgrades are still incredibly useful. There’s a surprising amount of space on your backpack for additional components, and having an extra battery on your back can save your life in the more dangerous parts of Australia. If you keep running out of power in Death Stranding 2, here’s where you can find Extra Battery upgrades.

You can increase your maximum battery level in Death Stranding 2 by attaching extra batteries to your backpack before setting out on a delivery. The Extra Battery attachment is unlocked after connecting Heartman’s Lab to the Chiral Network roughly halfway through the story of the game.

Extra Batteries take up a lot of space on your backpack, however, and they don’t even provide that much of a boost to your battery levels. To get even more power, you’ll need to unlock Extra Battery level 2, 3, and 4 by completing more optional orders.

The Extra Battery upgrades are all unlocked at Heartman’s Lab, so you don’t have to go very far to find them. To get them, all you need to do is increase your connection level with the Hydrologist at Heartman’s Lab.

You’ll receive the Extra Battery level 2, 3, and 4 upgrades at connection level 2, 3, and 4 respectively. You don’t have to max out Heartman’s Lab, but doing so will net you some additional rewards on top of the battery blueprints.

Once you have the Extra Battery upgrades unlocked, you can fabricate them at any facility and stick them onto your backpack as long as you have room. They’ll take up most of the available space, but you can squeeze in some smaller backpack customization items like stickers, patches, or even mini batteries that will give you a tiny bit more juice.
