The Ancient Cities and the Wardens that patrol them are terrifying in Minecraft, but they are filled with great loot that players need to get.
The Copper Golems were a part of the Minecraft Live 2021 Mob Vote, but despite their cute design and popularity, they lost to the Allay. Luckily, Mojang hasn’t let the Copper Golem oxidize and die out, as they’ve polished them off and brought them into Minecraft for everyone to build and work with.
The Copper Golem is currently only available in Minecraft Preview, where players must create a new world and select Experiments, and then select Drop 3 2025 to activate the Copper update.

Copper Golem Crafting Recipe in Minecraft
The Copper Golem can be created by placing a Block of Copper on the ground and then placing a Carved Pumpkin on top of the Block of Copper. Carved Pumpkins can be acquired by interacting with a Pumpkin block with Shears, and Copper Blocks can be crafted by filling the Crafting Table with 9 Copper Ingots. If players are in need of Copper, they will need to go mining for Copper Ore with a Stone Pickaxe (or better) to smelt the Copper Ore into Copper Ingots.
Once players have just 1 Block of Copper and 1 Carved Pumpkin, they can be placed anywhere to craft the Copper Golem, which will see the adorable copper creature spawn into the world on top of a new Copper Chest. Players will always need a Copper block, but it doesn’t matter what level of degradation the Block of Copper has, meaning players can use Exposed, Weathered, or Oxidized Copper to create different colors of Copper Golem.
Copper Golems can have their condition restored to normal by interacting with them while holding an Axe.
What Does the Copper Golem Do in Minecraft?
The Copper Golems are non-hostile mobs that will never fight the player, and they are instead used as loyal companions and item sorters. The Copper Golem will roam freely and interact with Chests and Copper Chests to sort items correctly. This means that the Copper Golem is an auto-sorter, which allows for the Copper Golem to clear up any messy chests by sorting them. Copper Golems will take items out of Copper Chests and try to find a matching place for them within a normal Chest. This means that if players place their items into a Copper Chest, the Copper Golem will take those items and look for where they can go inside normal storage Chests, which is great for automatically sorting equipment and stacking items, like mining materials, building blocks, and other tools since the Copper Golem will find space to keep things neat and tidy.
