Some Gamers Aren’t Happy With the Steam Summer Sale

Some gamers online have shared their dissatisfaction with the discounts offered in the ongoing Steam Summer Sale. The most recent Steam sale began on June 26, and some gamers think that it isn’t offering enough in the way of steep offers on games.

Steam sales have always been a big part of the PC gaming calendar. They offer ways for gamers to bulk up their Steam libraries with tons of bargain games, with some AAA titles even falling into the 90% off bracket at times. Valve used to handle these sales slightly differently, offering flash deals every few hours throughout the duration of the sale. This would keep players engaged throughout the entire Steam sale, as there was always a chance a title that players wanted would go on an even bigger discount. It has been some time now since this was the case, but for many, these were the glory days of the Steam sale.

Steam Is Dealing with a Major Spam Problem

Game developers from a major indie platform are complaining about their games being stolen and resold on Steam by an anonymous publisher.

As spotted by TheGamer, a new Reddit thread by user 2Sanskari4You has highlighted their dissatisfaction with the recent Steam Summer Sale, declaring it “worse than Spring Sale.” The thread has gained major traction in Steam’s Reddit community, garnering over 37,000 upvotes and 2,000 comments discussing the lackluster elements of the latest Steam sale. One user claimed that “Big sales have become the appointed time for full price games from five years ago to sell at a realistic price,” while another lamented the practice of “some games having the exact same discount for years.”

Some Gamers Wish the Steam Summer Sale Had Steeper Discounts

One user offered a potential reasoning for the issue, pointing out that “As the PC has gained market share, there’s less of reason for companies to offer steep discounts.” Steam frequently has top games at historically low prices outside typical sale periods, which is excellent in its own right. However, there’s definitely an argument that this, combined with the fact that deals inside sale periods aren’t quite as steep as they used to be, has contributed to extended Steam sales not quite feeling as special as they used to.

That’s not to say there aren’t some great deals in the Steam Summer Sale. The likes of Black Mesa, Guardians of the Galaxy, Star Wars Battlefront 2, and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy are all 90% off, offering something for everyone. Meanwhile, indie hit Schedule 1 has received its first-ever Steam discount, a steep 30%, bringing the Early Access title down to just $13.99. There’s plenty more available right now, so it’s well worth a look for gamers looking to bulk up their Steam libraries.
