Mario Kart World and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom players think the games have a similar issue: frustrating menus. The Nintendo Switch 2 was released on June 5, and many gamers have been playing Mario Kart World and Tears of the Kingdom on the new system.
While not the only games available for the Switch 2 at launch, Mario Kart World and Tears of the Kingdom are two of the most popular for obvious reasons. Mario Kart World is the first brand-new console entry in the racing series since Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U, making it the primary system seller for the new hybrid system. On the other hand, the Switch 2 Edition of Tears of the Kingdom offers an upgraded way to play the 2023 Switch game. With an improved frame rate, higher resolution, and several other new features, many early adopters of the Switch 2 have been checking out the game. Even though both titles have many fans, they are not without their faults.

Mario Kart World Physical Sales Surpass Major Milestone
Mario Kart World’s physical sales in Japan achieve a major milestone, further cementing the success of the Switch 2’s flagship launch game.
One of the issues common among the games was pointed out on Reddit by a user known as michael14375. In a post, they highlighted the cumbersome UI of both Nintendo titles. Specifically, Mario Kart World’s massive character roster can be hard to sort through due to its layout, and Tears of the Kingdom’s pop-up item menu could take players out of the action. Beyond showing the UI problems, michael14375 provided a mock-up of what they believed would be solutions for both games. For Mario Kart World, they removed the outfit variants from the main list and added them as a subgrouping that would become visible when selecting a specific character. In the case of Tears of the Kingdom, additional rows were added that grouped items based on specific criteria, making it potentially easier to find something useful.
Mario Kart World and Tears of the Kingdom Both Have Cumbersome Menus
When sharing the idea on Reddit, michael14375 said, “Nintendo must think we like endless scrolling or something.” Based on the responses, many fans seem to agree with the issue. So far, more than 5.2K users have upvoted the post, with many weighing in. While some noted that items in Tears of the Kingdom can be sorted in several ways in the quick menu, many players still find the system clunky. While users had varying views on michael14375’s UI concepts, many agreed with the Reddit user that improvements should be made by Nintendo.
Time will tell if the menus for either game will be changed in the coming months. While Tears of the Kingdom has been around for a couple of years, Mario Kart World is still new. With this in mind, more updates for the game will inevitably be released in the coming weeks, potentially addressing the problems with menu navigation.
