Completing the various Daedric Shrine quests across Cyrodiil can be very lucrative for Oblivion Remastered players, as each one grants them a powerful Daedric Artifact upon completion. However, these quests often ask players to weigh the morality of their actions against the worth of the rewards they can potentially obtain. If players are willing to tear an entire village apart, then Mephala’s shrine quest will bestow upon them one of the best one-handed blades in the game.

Oblivion Remastered’s Mephala Shrine Quest is a Heartbreaking Experience
Mephala Requires Oblivion Remastered Players to Do the Unthinkable
Oblivion Remastered players can find Mephala’s shrine just north of the Imperial City, where the Daedric Prince’s monstrous visage can be seen amid the fields of the heartlands. As the Daedric Prince associated with murder and deception, it’s expected that Mephala would task players with completing a disturbing task to earn her favor. Bringing Mephala an offering of Nightshade between midnight and dawn initiates her request and sends players to the nearby town of Bleaker’s Way to undertake a soul-crushing mission.
The town of Bleaker’s Way is home to two prominent families, the Ulfgar and the Dalvilu, of Nord and Dunmer descent, respectively. Mephala wishes to see the peace between these families destroyed, and tasks the player with murdering their respective patriarchs and framing the other family as the culprit by planting opposing family relics on their bodies. This deceit sows animosity between the Ulfgar and Dalvilu families, and ultimately causes them to openly attack each other, only stopping when the entirety of one side is killed.
While the Reward is Great, Players Have to Live With Their Actions
After instigating the murder of nearly an entire village, Oblivion Remastered players are rewarded by Mephala with the 
Ebony Blade, a powerful Daedric Artifact with the Absorb Health and Silence enchantments. While this weapon may be perfect for dealing with magic-based foes like Mages and Daedra Spiders, it comes with such a heavy price that not every Oblivion Remastered player is going to have the heart to follow through with the tasks required to obtain it. For those who are able to stomach the tragedy they help facilitate in Bleaker’s Way, the Ebony Blade is a powerful tool to add to their arsenal.
Not only will this quest weigh on the player’s conscience, but it will also have effects on Oblivion Remastered‘s world and gameplay at large. Because players will need to murder Hrol Ulfgar and Nivan Dalvilu, they will gain Infamy for completing this quest, potentially resulting in the loss of the Nine Divines’ blessing and the use of the Crusader’s gear if they’ve started the Knights of the Nine questline, as well as lowering the disposition certain NPCs will have toward the player. For players undertaking an evil Oblivion Remastered playthrough, this may not be much of a problem, but for players looking to maintain a positive Fame level, avoiding Mephala’s shrine quest may be the best option.
