The Best Flareon ex Decks

Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s Eevee Grove era is underway, and things are already looking promising for Flareon ex. It has established meta-relevant partnerships with three Fire-type Pokemon: Turtonator, Torkoal, and Infernape ex.

Among Flareon ex’s new decklists, the Turtonator variant has been the most successful, quickly rising to become one of the best decks of the new expansion. The Torkoal build ranks second, while the Infernape ex version has also delivered strong results, though it’s currently less popular than the other two.

Flareon ex + Turtonator

Turtonator has remained relevant in Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s meta over the past few seasons. The sturdy Fire-type Pokemon can ramp up quickly and hit the board early with support from Kiawe. Even better, its main drawback is now covered by Flareon ex’s ability: Whenever Turtonator loses Energy after attacking, Flareon ex pulls it back from the discard pile.

How to Play the Flareon ex Turtonator Decks

1. Ideally, open with Turtonator.
2. Use Kiawe to ramp it up.
3. Evolve Flareon ex on the Bench.
4. Start dealing damage as soon as possible.
5. Use Turtonator’s discarded Energy to build up Flareon ex.

Flareon ex + Infernape ex

Their partnership works differently from other decks: Flareon ex becomes Infernape ex’s Energy-recovery engine, enabling multiple attacks. To be clear, most other synergies of Flareon ex work the other way around; the Eeveelution uses other Pokemon’s lost Energy to charge itself up.

How to Play the Flareon ex Infernape ex Decks

1. Start with Chimchar or Eevee.
2. Activate Infernape ex as soon as possible.
3. Evolve Flareon ex on the Bench.
4. Deal damage with Infernape ex.
5. Retrieve the discarded Energy with Flareon ex.
6. Use Dawn to transfer the recovered Energy to Infernape ex.
7. Repeat the process for as long as possible.

How to Build the Perfect Flareon ex Deck

When building a Flareon ex deck, you’ll face a few challenges: 1) How to trigger its ability, 2) Which Eevee to evolve, and 3) How to counterbalance its self-inflicted damage and average power.

Here’s how to tackle each issue:

Capitalize on discarded Energy

​​​​​​You need to pair Flareon ex with Fire-type Pokemon that have a high opportunity cost—that is, cards that deal heavy damage but discard their own Energy as a trade-off. The best choices, as shown in the top Flareon ex decks, are Turtonator, Torkoal, and Infernape ex.

Pick the right Eevee

For an aggressive strategy, use the A1a Eevee with the coin-flip mechanic. For more consistency, try the new Eevee from the Eevee Grove set, which can draw cards for one Energy. If you want a versatile option, Eevee ex is also viable, though it carries a higher risk of losing two points early.

Maximize Flareon ex’s DMG

You’ll need cards like Eevee Bag, Giovanni, or Red to boost Flareon ex’s damage. Without these buffs, your damage output may fall short of knocking out the opponent’s main Pokemon. Guzma can also be useful for removing Capes, lowering the enemy’s HP into Flareon ex’s knockout range.

Don’t underestimate the self-inflicted damage
