Each Phantom Thief’s Persona has multiple skills to unlock as they level up in Persona 5 Phantom X. On top of their listed skills, you can use anytime in combat, each character also has a Highlight attack, which is a powerful super ability that can be triggered every few turns in combat.
Highlight Attacks are much like Showtime Attacks in Persona 5 Royal, though players have more of a hand in charging them up and triggering them. Each character only has one Highlight Attack, with each one being unique and dealing more than just damage. Here’s how to charge up highlight attacks and how to use them in Persona 5 Phantom X.

How to Charge Highlight Attacks in Persona 5 X
Highlight Attacks are charged up by attacking enemies in combat or using your Personas in general. The energy you have for a Highlight Attack is indicated by the yellow star in the bottom right corner of the screen, with it charging up to a maximum of 100%. Hitting a Shadow’s weakness or killing one will charge up your Highlight energy faster, though no matter what actions you are using in combat, you’ll get it to 100% in two or three turns if you have all party members alive and acting.
Your Highlight energy can’t go beyond 100%, so use it whenever you charge it up so as not to waste newly earned energy.

How to Use Highlight Attacks in Persona 5 X
You can only see the option to use Highlight Attacks whenever the energy is at 100%. Once you have enough, yellow icons for each character in your party will appear along the bottom of the screen with the word, “Action” over their head. Select which character’s Highlight Attack you want to use, then select the enemy you want to use it on to use the attack.
Selecting the character first will also let you see in the bottom left corner what that attack does, so you know if you want to use it and how to target it. You can use Highlight Attacks out of turn, with any character using a Highlight Attack anytime during the player’s turn. You can then act as usual as the character you were about to attack with, letting you even attack back to back with the same character as long as one of the attacks is their Highlight Attacks.
All Highlight Attacks have a cooldown after being used, so you’ll need to switch up which ones you use in a longer battle.
