Unfortunately, Red Dead Online did not have the same longevity as its fellow online Rockstar game, and never managed to reach the same lofty heights or amount of content.

Red Dead Online Was Virtually Dormant For Years

It should be noted that prior to the release of Red Dead Online‘s Strange Tales of the West, the game had not seen a significant expansion or content release since 2022. Aside from small events and bonuses, it seemed that Red Dead Online had been left without future content after only three years. At the same time, Grand Theft Auto Online has been running strong for over a decade with new weapons, vehicles, and missions being added through regular updates. The difference between the two games and their track records is staggering. Even Red Dead Online‘s surprise addition of new missions doesn’t change that.

Rockstar outright announced in 2022 that Red Dead Online would receive no more major updates, making the recent update all the more surprising.

Grand Theft Auto 6 Will Raise GTA Online’s Profile Even Further

While Grand Theft Auto Online continued to benefit from developer attention, players created a petition to save Red Dead Online in hopes of seeing more content. If anything, Grand Theft Auto 6 bringing another development to GTA Online will only further the gap between the two titles. After all, GTA 6 and GTA Online being tied together is natural. To be fair, there is a chance that Red Dead Online could see a revival, but unless Red Dead Online seriously picks up steam, Grand Theft Auto Online will continue to leave it behind.
