Silksong Reddit Is Resorting to Ritual Sacrifices

Members of the Hollow Knight: Silksong subreddit have conducted a satirical sacrificial ritual involving voluntary bans. The move marks the latest in the community’s long string of attempts to find ways to cope with Hollow Knight: Silksong receiving so few status updates in recent years.

Originally intended as Hollow Knight DLC, Silksong‘s growing scope eventually saw it transformed into a standalone sequel, which Team Cherry officially announced in February 2019. The Australian studio has shared precious little information about the game ever since. The r/Silksong subreddit either hasn’t been taking this prolonged radio silence well or has been handling it extremely well, depending on the perspective. What’s clear, however, is that this community of over 160,00 people has grown increasingly more restless over the years.

Continuing this trend, the subreddit has recently held a satirical ritual sacrifice meant to stave off what its users refer to as “silksanity,” a tongue-in-cheek reference to the mental toll that waiting for Silksong has taken on some members of the community. As part of the effort, the subreddit picked four “Dreamers” to be “sealed”—banned—until the game comes out, Screen Rant reports.

For a ‘Silksanity’ Stunt, r/Silksong’s Ritual Sacrifice Was an Incredibly High-Effort Event

While all of this comes down to a passionate community just fooling around while waiting for some good news to finally materialize, that’s not to take away from the execution of this idea, which was incredibly high-effort. One of the people involved provided some authentic Hollow Knight artwork, while another authored an elegy in a bid to immortalize the initiative. “Under beleiver [sic] watch, you doubted, we accepted, deniers were redeemed,” the verse-long poem reads. “A subreddit you gave to beleiver [sic] and doubter as they had never dreamed.” Staying in line with the sub’s culture, the elegy intentionally misspells “believer,” whose original spelling was shunned among true believers in Silksong coming out eventually because it incorporates “lie.”

The community voted for the four sacrifices to banish, thus deciding on its “Dreamers” democratically. After the process was done, the selected fans were given 24 hours to post their goodbyes, temporary as they might be. The banned group includes HopOffRedditRn, who was the one to originally propose this unusual Silksong event, together with Present-Drink-9301, FoxyCantPost, and TomNook5085. “We’re being sacrificed so that the hope can remain shining bright within this sub no matter what happens,” HopOffRedditRn explained in a widely circulated post.

Looking at the current state of affairs, the Dreamers may not be banned for too long. There have been some recent indications to suggest Team Cherry is targeting a 2026 release for Silksong. Apart from PC and the latest two generations of Nintendo, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles, the Hollow Knight sequel is also expected to be a day-one Xbox Game Pass release.
