Some Steam users have discovered a way to permanently hide mature content warnings while browsing games on the platform. Though the exact method is unclear, it seems there is a way to hide the annoying birthdate entry popups for Steam games that are rated M for mature.
Since its launch in 2003, Steam has become the most popular game management client on the market. The vast majority of gamers utilize Steam in some capacity – which also means they are familiar with the mature content warning screen they are met with while browsing M-rated games. This popup demands the player enter their birthdate before viewing the landing page for games with excessive violence, sexual content, or similar aspects.

2022 Game Is Free on Steam Until July 6
A 2022 indie game with RPG elements, Zelda influences, and some interesting aesthetics is free to claim on Steam until July 6.
However, it seems there is a function on Steam that lets gamers permanently hide these intrusive warnings. Steam user RealisticRoll6882 shared an image on Reddit of a secondary popup that seemingly allowed them to hide all future mature content warning age check-ups on their account for games with a Mature ESRB rating.
Permanently Hide Mature Content Warnings on Steam
It is currently unclear how RealisticRoll6882 got this popup to appear. Many fans were unable to replicate this on their own clients, suggesting there was some sort of special condition RealisticRoll6882 used. Some suggested it may only appear to accounts that are at least 18 years old, while others theorized it was based on location. The European Accessibility Act went into effect in June, which requires digital platforms to minimize the input of repeated information, and could feasibly have prompted this change if the original poster was from the EU.
Regardless, assuming the original image is not fake, this proves Steam has the ability to let players permanently hide these annoying warnings. Even so, the reason these warnings are repeatedly shown by default is that the ESRB requires the platform to check if the current user is of age to view the mature content, not the account itself. That said, underage users can easily lie about their age to get around this roadblock, so the system ends up being more frustrating than anything. It remains to be seen when or if Steam will implement this change worldwide in the future.
In the meantime, gamers still have time to enjoy the Steam Summer Sale.
