These challenging Raids are part of the end-game in P5X, but players can try their chances sooner if they know what to do. On that note, this guide will provide all the information regarding Nightmare Gateways, how to join the event, how long it lasts, how to reset scores, and other important details they should know before joining the fight.

What Is Nightmare’s Gateway in Persona 5 The Phantom X?

Nightmare’s Gateway is a social-type event, similar to a Raid, where all members of a Companio fight in solo battles to ‘weaken’ a boss in various levels of difficulty that go from Easy to Nightmare, and have players accumulate points in a singular score (that is, the player’s ranking inside the Companio) and a general score (the Companio’s Ranking that adds all the points gained by the members to rank against other groups of players).

Damage dealt to bosses counts as Extermination Points, and accumulating enough points by facing the bosses and weakening them during encounters will help players gain juicy rewards like Companio Coins, which they can exchange for prizes like Tickets, Platinum Milicoin, and more.

Once players have chosen a Party to raid a boss, it becomes ‘locked‘, meaning all Personas selected for Wonder, as well as the Revelations, equipment, and other customizations for the Phantom Thieves cannot be changed, unless players manually reset the score.

Resetting your points will not alter the already established score for the general ranking at each of the difficulty levels. So keep that in mind. Rewards are also distributed according to the general points players accumulate.

Players can take on the bosses at each level of difficulty as many times as they like, but the Score that will be recorded will be the Highest, meaning if they cause even more damage the second time they try, that score will become the best current score, and so on.

Nightmare’s Gateway becomes accessible once players are about to end the second Palace (Miyazawa), and a side quest called ‘Outburst of Nightmares’ will become available. Players need to go to Shibuya Central Station and talk to Lufel (he’s perching on a bench near Shichi-Kun, the dog from the Quiz Side Quest).

If players haven’t joined a Companio, now is the right time to do it, since the next step will be to talk to Marthym at the Companio ‘realm.’ Players can fast travel to their Companio meeting site at any time from the game menu. Once there, select ‘Explore Companio’ and talk to Marthym to complete the side-quest, and unlock the Nightmare’s Gateway.

Of course, players can also pre-unlock the event if they have joined a Companio and met the level requisites before reaching this point in the Main Story. No worries though, nothing will happen if they have already tried to conquer this ‘Raid’ prior to completing the Side-Quest.

Current Nightmare’s Gateway Schedule

Nightmare's Gateway Dominion

Nightmare’s Gateway is a Seasonal event, so it resets at the end of each season. Currently, there are two main ‘Raid bosses’ available to beat in Nightmare’s Gateway: Dominion and Kohryu. The current season will end on July 10, 2025, at 7:59 PM UTC (which is the general server reset time).

How to get Nightmare’s Gateway Rewards

Players will obtain rewards according to their personal score, by reaching Extermination Point milestones. These reset at the end of the season, so players can try beating the new bosses that randomly appear once again.

Players will gain more rewards according to the members of the Companio participating in the Nightmare’s Gateway. Participation rewards also reset at the end of the season.

Participation rewards will be set according to the Companio’s Ranking, which resets at the end of the season, distributing rewards to all members who participated in the event. Players should aim to accumulate higher scores so that they can earn some juicy rewards. Here’s a list of the rewards players can earn for the individual Milestones:

Nightmare Gateways Combat Tips

Before attempting any of the boss battles, players should carefully check three important things: Rules, Effects, and Enemy Intel. The first Appears on the Bottom Screen, by pressing there players will notice that Bosses have certain Rules depending on the Season.

In this case, the current rule is ‘Devourer of Dreams‘, which triggers a ‘Weakened’ phase on the boss where it cannot attack. Once players have done enough damage, the boss will be unable to act for 3 turns. The other active rule is ‘Multidimensional Dreamscape,’ which causes boss attacks to scale on damage each turn. But so will the players’ damage and the amount of Extermination Points they’ll gain.

Players should keep in mind that Rules and Effects reset each season. Keep a close eye on them to plan the best battle strategy.

On the other hand, Effects increase or decrease the damage certain Classes cause during Nightmare’s Gateway in Persona 5 The Phantom X. For example, increasing the Party’s Critical Damage by 50%, Decreasing Gun Damage by 20%, and so on. Effects can be positive and negative, so pay attention to this to reach the maximum possible score.

Here are some tips to prepare for battle:

  • Before locking the Party that’s attempting the boss, maximize their stats by leveling up Persona Skills, weapons and the Phantom Thieves themselves.
  • Equipping leveled sets of Revelations before battle is a great way to maximize a character’s stats and damage output. Pick the Recommended Set in the bottom right corner of the Revelation menu to get the best possible set for that character.
  • Make sure to unlock Awakening if some of the personas the player has have enough Seals. These can be obtained during the Gacha Draws if players pick repeated characters.
  • Make sure to optimize the team composition, especially Wonder’s Janosik and secondary Personas, since he is the most versatile member of the crew, and can jump from attacker to support depending on the Personas he has equipped.
  • Players should be around level 40 before trying the Nightmare’s Gateway, otherwise, it will be a waste of time.
  • Check Daily and Lufel’s Business Plan rewards; there are some useful Revelation Cards that can be obtained and will be very helpful during battle.
  • Try to bring a Curse Damage dealer like Joker or Yaoling Li, or if players do not have any of those characters, then bring Wonder equipped with Nue and Pale Rider.
  • Don’t forget the power of the Support role, mainly because these are prolonged battles, similar to those of Palace bosses. Some might have various stages, or summon infinite supporters. So keep a steady flow of HP and SP recovery during battle.

How to Unlock All Mini-Games in Persona 5 Phantom X

Want to know how to unlock all mini-games in Persona 5: The Phantom X? Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to unlock all available side-activities.

Now, as for formation and the best Team Comps, Dominion and its cohort of Principality, Angel, and Archangel, are weak to Curse Damage. Joker and Arsenè would be the ideal choice for this battle, but Yaoling Li (Rin) causes tremendous damage as well. Equipping Wonder with Pale Rider will boost Curse damage significantly, so that’s the ideal composition. Bring a healer like Morgana, Lufel, or Shin to mitigate, and it’s going to be easy even in the highest difficulty levels. Montagne is a pretty solid choice as well, since she deals damage according to missing health, and that can end up in criticals of 15 to 19k if players time Durandal of Ice correctly.

On the other hand, Kohryu is a pretty tough nail. He will summon Shadows of Seiryu during battle, buffing various of its stats. Players should prioritize eliminating them before Kohryu becomes fully empowered, or its going to be a TPK. Kohryu resists Holy and Psy damages, but it’s weak to Nuclear. Bringing Wonder equipped with Phoenix and Kamiyama in the team will suffice to deal enough hurt. Support with characters like Lufel, Morgana, and Haruna to maximize Kamiyama’s already broken kit.
