After a long content drought, Red Dead Online has received four new missions for players to dive into. As the online spin-off to Red Dead Redemption 2, Red Dead Online expands the game’s western world, allowing players to role-play as their very own outlaw. This brand-new update is titled “Strange Tales of the West,” and it brings a variety of bizarre and paranormal stories to the game.
As exciting as the Strange Tales of the West update is, there is still another long-awaited Red Dead Redemption 2 update that has yet to show itself. After Rockstar seemingly moved on from Red Dead Online back in 2022, many have been left wondering what lies in store for the franchise next. There is always hope for RDR3, but if that happens, it is likely years away. Red Dead Online getting fresh content in 2025 was unexpected, but it’s also hopefully setting the stage for the long-awaited PS5 and Xbox Series X updates to premiere.

The PS5 and Xbox Series X are now five years old, and Rockstar hasn’t offered a patch that makes RDR2 truly shine on current gen consoles.
There are many players who have been hoping to experience RDR2 in 60 FPS, but it’s unclear if that day will ever come. Even when the game launched for the last generation of consoles back in 2018, it was hailed for its stunning visuals. To this day, the game is jaw-dropping to look at, so there’s no telling how much more impressive its graphics would be with current gen capabilities. Despite its popularity, the Red Dead Redemption franchise has been slow to grow compared to its fellow Rockstar series, Grand Theft Auto. While the latter is more about bold action, the former has embraced deeper storytelling and realism, and its graphics are one of the many ways this is demonstrated.

Of course, there’s no way to know for sure exactly what this news is regarding, but it could potentially be teasing a native PS5 and Xbox Series X version.
