Hollow Knight: Silksong will finally be playable on September 18, 2025, but only as part of an Australian museum exhibit. The wait for Hollow Knight‘s sequel has been one of the most noteworthy in recent memory, with fans having little to go on but sporadic updates and glimpses of the title since its 2019 announcement. Now, Hollow Knight: Silksong has announced a firm date on which it will be playable, but it’s still not an official release day.

The rumor mill around the much-anticipated Metroidvania has started to kick into high gear again after a stretch of relative silence. The April 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Direct subtly confirmed that Hollow Knight: Silksong will release in 2025, something a handful of previous leaks and suggestions had estimated. Still, there has been no official news of a specific day or month, so the mystery continues. However, a new piece to the puzzle has emerged.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Gets Puzzling Update

The latest update for Hollow Knight: Silksong has left some fans of the franchise scratching their heads.

On the morning of May 1, IGN confirmed that Silksong will be playable at ACMI, Australia’s national museum of screen culture, starting September 18 of this year. This will be part of an exhibition called Game Worlds, which will run until February 2026 and showcase concept art and interactive displays from 30 games, spanning the decades from the 1970s until today. That includes hundreds of Silksong sprites, a look at the gameplay logic behind its boss fights, and, most importantly, a playable copy of the game. Some leaks suggest that Silksong could come out by June 2025, so it’s entirely possible that fans can get their hands on the title before the Game Worlds exhibit opens up, but without an official release date, that’s uncertain.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Will Be Playable in an Australian Museum Exhibit in September 2025

The version of Silksong available in the exhibit may not be the full game, either. The official ACMI Game Worlds announcement refers to “playable demos,” implying that the games it features won’t be their full versions, which makes sense for a museum. It’s also hard to tell what the announcement means for the Hollow Knight sequel’s actual release day. It’s rumored that Silksong will get coverage during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 8, so fans may get some more information if a new trailer premieres then, but that, too, is up in the air.

Regardless of the specifics, Hollow Knight: Silksong is potentially coming out sometime this year, and at least a portion of it will be playable in September for fans near ACMI. Team Cherry has also confirmed that Kickstarter backers will get Silksong codes for their platforms of choice before the game releases.
