Overwatch 2 fans are requesting a popular feature be added to the shooter’s new Stadium mode, and Blizzard responds to the call.
Now that Stadium has been out for just over a week, Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller has revealed some of the plans for the game mode in the near future. The Director’s Take blog confirmed that Season 17 would see Junkrat, Sigma, and Zenyatta join the roster of playable characters, with Sojourn, Winston, and Brigitte arriving in Season 18. Freja had already been confirmed for the Overwatch 2 mid-Season patch after her addition to the main game in Season 16, but players can also expect every new hero from now on to follow suit, meaning Aqua will join Stadium in the mid-Season 18 patch, and the mysterious Hero 45 in mid-Season 20.

Also in that season, a Stadium-specific game type called Payload Race will arrive with two brand-new maps. Lastly, a new map set in China is currently planned for Season 19, though little else is known about it yet.
Plenty of other new systems and features are also coming to Stadium soon. Overwatch 2 Season 17 heralds the arrival of Unranked Stadium and crossplay, along with custom games and a build importer and exporter. Stadium Trials, Endorsements, and Quests are planned to arrive in Season 18, and Season 19 is expected to add Draft Mode, Consumables, and plenty of other improvements.
This new roadmap has revealed a promising stream of content for Overwatch 2’s Stadium game mode. Indeed, if it continues the cadence of three heroes each season, plus new characters in their respective mid-season updates, Overwatch 2 should have the entire roster available in Stadium by Season 24 – ostensibly in August 2026. Needless to say, fans of Stadium should have no shortage of exciting things to look forward to for a long time.
