Walmart Switch 2 Pre-Order Page Is Causing Some Confusion

Summary

  • Walmart’s Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order page was abruptly removed on or around April 26.
  • While the move caused confusion, some fans claim they were still able to pre-order the console beforehand.
  • Other major U.S. retailers have also struggled with Switch 2 pre-orders since April 24.

Walmart’s Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order page is no longer available, having been taken down with no prior notice. The move caused confusion among fans, mirroring the broader issues seen with chaotic Switch 2 pre-orders at major U.S. retailers.

Consumers in many parts of the world have been able to pre-order Nintendo’s next console since April 9. While that was originally the plan for the U.S. as well, stateside Switch 2 pre-orders were delayed due to the Trump administration’s trade policies, which prompted Nintendo to reassess its product prices amid the looming threat of Washington’s (currently paused) tariffs. American consumers have finally been able to pre-purchase the console starting April 24—at least in theory. In practice, recent fan testimonies suggest that the Switch 2 pre-ordering experience in the U.S. has so far been largely chaotic.

Continuing this trend, Walmart’s Switch 2 pre-order page was taken down on or around April 26. While the listing was experiencing technical issues at the very start of the pre-order period, this particular development doesn’t seem to be a result of high traffic overwhelming Walmart’s hosting provider. Instead, the pre-sale landing page has been outright removed from the retailer’s website, as recently noted by Reddit user NapoelonDynaMighty.

Where Did Walmart’s Nintendo Switch 2 Product Page Go?

Searching for the “Switch 2” on Walmart’s online store currently doesn’t help with pre-ordering, with the top result being a highly misleading third-party listing advertising a “V2” Switch model with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. However, the real Switch 2 listing for the Mario Kart World bundle hasn’t been taken down, even though it currently lists the product as out of stock. Some fans chiming in on NapoelonDynaMighty’s observation claimed that they were able to pre-order the Switch 2 from Walmart on day one, suggesting that this page removal shouldn’t be taken as a sign of those pre-orders being in trouble.

The confusion Walmart caused with this move reinforces the notion that the Switch 2 pre-orders in the U.S. have been a disaster. Best Buy, Target, and Walmart’s websites all crashed at the start of the pre-order period, with many consumers reporting mixed results from their attempts to secure the Switch successor in advance.

Walmart’s now-removed page also drew scrutiny for being designed as a digital queue that offered no helpful information, such as a user’s position in line or details on how buying opportunity notifications would be handled. Some users also reported that the page’s anti-botting solution—a prompt to fill a meter by holding a cursor—would get stuck in an endless refreshing loop after being successfully completed. The Switch 2 pre-sale period will in theory run until June 4, as the console is scheduled to hit the market the day after.
