A Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 player released a PC mod that increased the timing of dodge and parry windows during combat to varying degrees. The Expedition 33 mod is free to download on NexusMods, and its creator gave other players instructions on how to correctly install it within the game’s file directory on Windows PCs.
Developed by French studio Sandfall Interactive, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 drew heavy inspiration from classic JRPGs like the Final Fantasy series and The Legend of Dragoon with its approach to storytelling and combat. After an entity known as the Paintress drew the number 33 in the sky to signify the departure of all people at or above that age, the titular Expedition 33 set out on a mission to defeat her and end her deadly reign. Within hours of its April 24 launch, Expedition 33 had already asserted itself as a success by selling over 500,000 copies across multiple platforms and becoming the top-rated 2025 game on OpenCritic with a score of 92.

Publisher of Clair Obscur Refers to Oblivion Remastered Releasing in the Same Week to “Barbenheimer”
Kepler Interactive took to social media after Bethesda Game Studios’ shadow drop of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. They compared the release of their upcoming game, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and the Oblivion remaster to the “barbenheimer” phenomenon that occured in 2023.
Although parts of Expedition 33‘s combat rely on timed button presses to deal and avoid damage, one player made the latter easier to manage on the PC version. A mod called “Easier or Harder Dodge and Parry” by a user named Caites is now available to download on NexusMods, with installation instructions from the author. The mod includes three different options to make dodging and parrying windows more open, depending on which version of the mod players want to download, along with a “True Expert” version to make timings tighter. Caites stated the standard immunity durations in Expedition 33 are between 0.22 and 0.35 seconds for dodging, and 0.15 to 0.25 seconds for parrying. While dodging has a larger window, parrying’s tighter timing rewards players with a chance to counterattack, which beginners will want to master quickly.

Additionally, the Expedition 33 dodge and parry mod can adjust the timings for dodging to be as wide as a full second via the “Even Easier” option. With more forgiving dodge and parry windows, players will be able to inflict and avoid status debuffs like Burn much more reliably when coupled with the game’s automatic timing options for attacks. Although Caites’ instructions mentioned the Steam version of Expedition 33, the mod will also work on the Epic Games Store and PC Game Pass clients.
Between the fledgling mod support and high praise from players, Expedition 33 is off to a fast start. Only time will tell what other quality-of-life mods will be made for Expedition 33.
