Bravely Default HD Remaster May Be Missing a Fan Favorite Feature

Summary

  • Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster won’t have the option to set encounter rates to zero, a departure from the 3DS version.
  • Players can customize encounter rates between 50% and 200% in the remaster, offering some control.
  • Physical copies for the Switch 2 will be distributed via Game-Key Cards, requiring 11 GB of storage space.

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster will not have the option to set encounter rates to zero, signaling the departure of a staple feature from the original 3DS title. However, Square Enix stated that the upcoming Bravely Default remaster will allow players to set the random battle encounter rate between 50% and 200% on the game’s world map.

Originally released in 2012 on the 3DS, Bravely Default drew inspiration from Square Enix’s iconic Final Fantasy series. Players take control of Tiz, Agnes, Edea, and Ringabel as they travel throughout the land of Luxendarc and seek out the mysterious crystals at the behest of a Cryst-Fairy named Airy. While both IPs feature iconic character classes and utilize crystals as a plot device, Bravely Default includes twists to the turn-based battles featured in older Final Fantasy games. By smartly using the Brave and Default actions, players can stockpile turns in battle and then unleash them to deal heavy damage to enemies in a single turn.

GameStop Has Good News for Fans That Missed Getting a Switch 2 Pre-Order

Nintendo fans that missed out on pre-ordering the Switch 2 gets a reassuring update from GameStop.

Although the Brave and Default mechanics can give players control of how to manage battles, one part of Bravely Default‘s original version will not be in the upcoming remaster. Square Enix revealed that Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster would only allow players to set the random battle encounter rates between 50% and 200%. Ergo, eliminating random encounters will not be possible in the remaster, a fan-favorite part of the 3DS version that gave players complete control over their experience.

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster Will Not Include A Zero Encounter Rate Option

  • Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster will not allow players to set encounter rates to zero.
  • Instead, the battle encounter rates can be customized between 50% and 200%.
  • Bravely Default games have been inconsistent with battle encounter customization.
  • The game will launch alongside the Switch 2 on June 5.

According to Nintendo Life, the original Japanese version of Bravely Default did not allow players to adjust the battle encounter rate at all, and those changes were added in Western releases in 2014. Although the 3DS sequel Bravely Second: End Layer also allowed players to adjust the encounter rate, Bravely Default 2 instead opted for visible enemies on the world map that players could either engage or avoid at will.

However, the departure of zero random encounters in Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster is not the only thing that has drawn fans’ ire. Like most third-party games coming to the Switch 2, physical copies of the Bravely Default remaster will be distributed on Game-Key Cards, which are game licenses that require downloading the full game files from Nintendo’s servers. In Bravely Default‘s case, 11 GB of storage space will be needed.

Players will soon be able to dive into Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster, as the game will exclusively launch alongside the Switch 2 on June 5. Whether Square Enix will allow players to adjust encounter rates to zero in a future update remains to be seen.
