Xbox fans will soon be able to grab Metro 2033 Redux for free as part of the horror FPS franchise’s 15th anniversary. A remaster of the original 2010 game, Metro 2033 Redux was brought to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 generation in 2014 alongside its remastered sequel, Metro: Last Light Redux.
Based on a series of books by Russian author Dimitry Glukhovsky, Metro is up there with the acclaimed STALKER series as one of the premier horror FPS franchises. While STALKER had historically been much more of a PC-centric game franchise until just recently with the Xbox Game Pass release of STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, Metro was primarily available on Xbox 360. Metro 2033 and Last Light received critical praise, with the latter reaching an 82 on Metacritic and the Redux remaster of 2033 hitting an impressive 90. The third game in the series, 2019’s Metro Exodus, was more of a commercial success, having sold over 10 million copies.

Metro 2033 Redux: How Long To Beat
Metro 2033 Redux offers a remastered look at the 2010 classic, and players jumping in for the first time should know how long it’ll take to beat.
As a celebratory gesture of the game franchise’s 15-year anniversary, the Metro Twitter account announced earlier this week that the Metro 2033 Redux remaster would be available to claim for free on Xbox, Steam, and GOG until this past Wednesday, April 16. While the Steam and GOG offerings seemed to have gone through without a hitch, Xbox gamers reported an issue when going to claim Metro 2033 Redux, preventing them from permanently adding the game to their Xbox libraries. Since Metro wasn’t able to get the issue sorted before the offer’s April 16 expiration, it has promised that it will give Xbox users another opportunity to grab Metro 2033 Redux for free at some point soon.
Metro 2033 Redux Will Be Free on Xbox Soon
It’s worth noting that this second chance opportunity will only be live for Xbox gamers, and that Steam and GOG gamers who missed their chance during the original offer window won’t get the offer again. It’s not known exactly why PlayStation or Switch gamers were left out of Metro‘s 15-year anniversary giveaway, though the reasoning could be attributed to the fact that Metro 2033 was originally an Xbox 360 console exclusive, and hadn’t made its way onto PlayStation or Switch until 2014 and 2020, respectively, as 2033 Redux.
Xbox gamers should expect the Metro 2033 Redux offer to pop back up again sometime in the coming days, so they should keep a keen eye on the Metro Twitter account so as to not miss out. As for what’s next for the Metro series, after the Metro Awakening VR game was released this past November, a fourth mainline Metro game is being worked on by 4A Games, which reportedly had to reboot development in 2022. This new Metro game could be close to a reveal some point soon, but nothing has been confirmed.
