Marvel Rivals Has A New Doctor Strange Portal Problem

Summary

  • Doctor Strange’s portals in Marvel Rivals can be exploited to access off-limits areas.
  • Players can trap enemies in an inescapable prison using the exploit.
  • NetEase will likely address this due to its unfair advantage.

Players are still managing to find ways to “break” Marvel Rivals, with a handy new Doctor Strange portal trick going viral online. Strange can spawn two portals on any given map, though with the right position, these portals can actually give players access to out-of-bounds areas, locking enemies in essentially a self-contained prison. Strange’s portable ability was meant to be powerful, but it will be interesting to see what developer NetEase does with an exploit as broken as this as Marvel Rivals‘ Season 2 cycle continues.

While Marvel Rivals has a ton of content to offer players, it’s the game’s roster that is likely the most compelling piece of the puzzle for fans. Marvel Rivals launched with an impressive 33 characters, ranging from iconic heroes like Iron Man and Spider-Man to classic villains like Hela and Venom. Each character has their own unique abilities and attributes, though Doctor Strange’s portals are unparalleled in their power. Due to this power, players are always finding new ways to use Doctor Strange’s kit, with one player in particular discovering a brand-new, most definitely unintended use for his portals.

How to Customize Costume Colors in Marvel Rivals (and All Supported Skins)

Costume color palettes have finally arrived in Marvel Rivals, and players can now customize their skins on certain heroes.

If players place one of Strange’s portals close enough to specific walls, they can actually clip through them and open the portal on the other side. This essentially means players can access what would be considered off-limits areas during matches. Marvel Rivals content creator Jay3 showed off the new exploit, revealing the power it could have during matches. When combined with Jeff the Land Shark, who has perhaps Marvel Rivals‘ most controversial ultimate, the full potential of this exploit is revealed, allowing full teams to be wiped from the playable bounds of the map quite literally.

Marvel Rivals Players Uncover Diabolical Doctor Strange Portal Exploit

There are already a number of strategies players can use regarding Doctor Strange’s portals in Marvel Rivals, though this is likely not a developer-approved one. Players affected by this exploit are basically thrown in jail, doomed to sit as the rest of their team continues the battle. What truly makes this such a diabolical strategy is that, after the enemy team is thrown into this “jail,” the player using Doctor Strange switches characters, deleting the portals from the map and leaving enemies trapped.

Given how unfair this exploit is, it’s likely NetEase will take swift action in a future update. However, considering just how powerful Doctor Strange’s portals can be, new exploits and glitches are likely to be found in the future. Marvel Rivals recently launched its Season 2 update, which came along with changes to gameplay as well as new maps. At the top of the new feature list is Emma Frost, a brand-new character who sets the stage for the rest of Marvel Rivals Season 2.
