Far Cry 7 Would Be Perfect For the Nintendo Switch 2

Far Cry 7 may not officially be announced yet, but the anticipation for a fresh chapter of Ubisoft’s long-running action adventure series continues. It’s unclear what lies in store for Far Cry 7, but rumors and leaks have suggested possible changes to the franchise that are compelling. Of course, any claims about the next Far Cry chapter should be taken with a grain of salt, but the unannounced follow-up has been fertile soil for speculation to grow.

One of the biggest questions regarding the mysterious Far Cry 7 is when it will eventually release. As the wait for an announcement continues, a potential launch date is looking further off in the distance, but Ubisoft could pull out a surprise when it’s least expected. Far Cry‘s future remains uncertain right now, but when the game finally launches, it may be primed to find a brand-new console home: Nintendo’s Switch 2.

Far Cry 7 and the Switch 2 May Prove to Be a Surprisingly Strong Combination

The Switch 2 is Leaning Harder Into Open-World and Third-Party Titles

  • The Switch 2 launch title Mario Kart World and the upgraded versions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom showcase a strong offering of exclusive open-world options.
  • Major third-party games like Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, and Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut will be made available for the console.

Before the Switch 2 was announced, a game as robust as Cyberpunk 2077 running on a Nintendo console seemed like a pipe dream. However, the company has claimed that the Switch 2 will be able to support the dystopian RPG, signaling a major upgrade from its predecessor. Other massive offerings like Elden Ring and Yakuza 0 further demonstrate that Nintendo is fully invested in bringing some of the industry’s biggest third-party franchises to the Switch 2.

The Switch 2 launches on June 5, 2025. The console is currently priced at $450, but players can also purchase a $500 bundle that includes Mario Kart World.

Embracing third-party titles and diving even deeper into open-world gameplay with Mario Kart World makes Far Cry 7 feel like a no-brainer. There’s no way to know for sure, but it wouldn’t be surprising if Nintendo was eyeing Ubisoft, or vice versa. There are even rumors that date back to 2023 claiming that Far Cry 7 is set to launch on the Switch 2.

It’s important to remember that rumors are far from official confirmation, but it’s definitely compelling to consider. The future direction of Far Cry will hopefully bring a breath of fresh air to the series. If that’s the case, then including the Switch 2 in its launch plans could potentially drum up even more excitement for the title.

Rumors and leaks about Far Cry 7 have included claims of a 72-hour in-game time limit and a potential island setting off the coast of Korea.

Far Cry 7 May Still Be a Long Ways Off

After the rocky year Ubisoft had in 2024, it remains to be seen what progress on Far Cry 7 is looking like. Thankfully, the company has recently had a win with Assassin’s Creed Shadows, but it isn’t out of the woods just yet. Far Cry 7 may still need a lot of work done on it before the game sees the light of day, but it will hopefully be revealed soon.

Now that Ubisoft has opened a new subsidiary to specifically handle its major IPs, like Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed, it will be interesting to see what the future of these franchises hold. The game currently remains a huge mystery, but when Far Cry 7 is finally ready to be announced to the masses, the Switch 2 seems likely to be included in such a reveal.
