Nintendo has recently shipped over a million Switch 2 consoles manufactured in Vietnam to the United States amid tariff hikes imposed by the US on imports from the rest of the world. Ever since Donald Trump was reelected President of the United States, the global markets have been moving closer to a trade war between the US and China, and it seems that Nintendo is trying to avoid the worst effects by shipping its Switch 2 consoles to America as quickly as possible.
The Nintendo Switch 2’s price was officially revealed to be $449.99 (or $499.99 if bundled with Mario Kart World) during the recent Nintendo Direct, with the console slated to release on June 5. However, both gamers and Nintendo seemed increasingly concerned as Trump imposed tariffs on nearly every country in the world, including 47% on goods imported from Vietnam and 67% on China. Soon after the original announcement, these tariffs were reduced to 10% for 90 days for most countries, and increased to over 100% for China.

A new report from Bloomberg has recently revealed that Nintendo has been sending most of its Vietnam-made Switch 2 consoles to the US since January, with over a million units shipped to the country in two months. Essentially, 100% of the Vietnamese production went to America during January, and February continued the trend, with only a fraction of the consoles being sent elsewhere. While there’s no data for March or April, even more consoles have likely been sent from Vietnam to the United States since then.
Nintendo Reportedly Moves Switch 2 Consoles From Vietnam to the US Amid Trade War
Right now, Vietnam has around a third of Nintendo’s production of Switch 2 consoles, with most of them still being manufactured in China, according to Bloomberg. Due to the insecurity caused by the tariffs, however, Nintendo stopped pre-orders for the Switch 2 in the US.
The more recent changes in Trump’s tariffs are good news for Nintendo, though, as it means that the Switch 2 will likely continue to be shipped from Vietnam without exorbitant 47% tariffs. In any case, it’s still unknown if the final price of the Switch 2 will go up in the US or not.
Fortunately, Bloomberg’s specialists have reported that if the tariffs remain at 10% in Vietnam, it’s possible that Nintendo will choose to take a hit on its profit margins and keep the same price instead of hiking prices even more. Time will tell if the price of Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 will remain stable through 2025 or not.
