Some Nintendo Switch 2 fans are fighting against eBay scalpers looking to sell console pre-orders at a premium, as listings are being taken down as soon as they appear via mass reports. While Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders in the US and Canada are still unavailable at the time of writing, that has not deterred scalpers from taking advantage of the situation.

Following the Switch 2’s full reveal during the April 2 Nintendo Direct episode, Nintendo confirmed that the console would initially start at $449.99 for the base console and $499.99 for the Mario Kart World bundle. Although Switch 2 pre-orders were initially set to begin on April 9, that date was pushed back to an undetermined time due to the Trump administration’s tariffs. Since then, the Trump administration has lowered tariffs to 10% in most countries for 90 days, with the Switch 2’s launch window of June 5 falling within that 90-day window.

Nintendo Explains Why Switch 2 Controllers Don’t Have Analog Triggers

Although the Trump tariff situation with the Switch 2 remains fluid, scalpers have already started listing pre-orders on eBay before the system’s June 5 release. As reported by Nintendo Life, Reddit users on the r/NintendoSwitch2 subreddit chose to fight against scalped Switch 2 eBay posts by reporting them and forcing eBay to take them down. Reddit user FroggoOwO stated that pre-selling an item on eBay isn’t allowed unless it can be shipped within 40 business days of its release or purchase date. On April 9, FroggoOwO stated that several Switch 2 scalper listings were removed since they fell outside the 40-day launch window, which goes against eBay’s terms of service. Another Redditor posted a poll to ask how many scalper listings of the Switch 2 were taken down, with some reporting that eBay’s AI-based assistant rejected their claims.

Nintendo Fans Fight Back Against Switch 2 Scalpers

Despite the ongoing efforts, the Switch 2’s June 5 launch is now less than 40 business days away. Ergo, some of the scalpers’ eBay listings may not be as easy to remove going forward. Given the current state of global economics in light of the Trump administration’s tariffs, some industry analysts initially predicted a gradual Switch 2 price increase.

As it stands, Nintendo has not announced when Switch 2 pre-orders in the US and Canada will begin, so fans must wait patiently for more information. Given that a Nintendo Direct focused on Mario Kart World is planned for April 17, only time will tell if Nintendo will resume pre-orders before then.
