Deltarune Has a Feature Exclusive to the Switch 2

Summary

  • Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4 are slated to launch alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5.
  • The Switch 2 version of Deltarune will let players use the Joy-Con 2 controllers in mouse mode in a specific room.
  • Mouse controls on Switch 2 Joy-Cons were recently confirmed, potentially enabling easier ports of PC games.

Deltarune will include a special feature exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game, putting in a unique section that will allow for the use of two Joy-Cons in mouse mode. These special two-mouse controls will only be applied to a single room in Deltarune, but they will give Switch 2 players a special treat that only that console can offer.

More than three and a half years after the original launch of its second chapter on PC, the release date for Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4 was finally revealed at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct presentation on April 2. Although it will also be available at its time of release for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC, and the original Nintendo Switch, the episodic RPG’s first four chapters will be launching alongside the upcoming console on June 5.

Deltarune is ripe with fan theories surrounding themes, characters, plots, and more, so here are some of the most popular of them, explained.

Deltarune being confirmed as a Switch 2 game at launch seems to be a special moment for solo developer Toby Fox. As he announced in part of a Fangamer newsletter about the release of the next two chapters, the Switch 2 version of the game will include a special room that allows players to utilize the mouse controls on two different Joy-Cons simultaneously. The newsletter states that the controls can be seen in the trailer that was revealed in the Switch 2 Direct, which appears to be a very brief segment around the 40-second mark that displays two curved lines of approaching sprites colliding with two other sprites on swivels labeled L and R. There’s no word on which chapter this room pops up in, but Fox has confirmed that the room will still appear in non-Switch 2 versions of the game, though the control schemes will be completely different.

Deltarune Adds Special Dual-Mouse Feature for Switch 2

Though they had been rumored for a long time before their official reveal, the mouse controls on the Joy-Con 2 were another feature confirmed at the April 2 showcase. Along with magnetic attachment points and bigger buttons than the Joy-Cons released for the original Switch, the mouse controls are a highly talked-about innovation ahead of the console’s release, potentially opening the door for a new wave of games in a style never seen before.

Although it was later ported to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, Deltarune was originally released as a PC-only game, with its first chapter launching on Halloween 2018. The mouse functionality could also potentially provide the Switch 2 with easier ports of other PC games, as pointed out by Civilization 7 developers’ assessment of the Joy-Con 2 from early February.
