PlayStation has revealed some of the new content coming to Astro Bot as part of a free update later this year. Astro Bot is currently the highest-rated new game release of 2024, with the 3D platformer earning rave reviews from fans and critics alike. Some have gone as far as to call Astro Bot one of the best 3D platformers ever made.
One of the few criticisms people have had about Astro Bot is that they feel the experience is too short. Indeed, Astro Bot‘s Platinum Trophy can be unlocked before the 20-hour mark, and so it’s understandable that some fans want more. It was confirmed before the game even launched that Astro Bot would be getting new content as part of a free update, and now PlayStation has given fans a look at what that will entail.

Astro Bot is Selling Very Well
Contrary to previously published sales data, Astro Bot records incredibly strong commercial performances in two major regions.
PlayStation kicked off its latest State of Play event with a fresh Astro Bot trailer showcasing some of the new content that fans can look forward to as part of a free update coming in fall 2024. As confirmed by the trailer, Astro Bot is adding five new online speedrun levels with 10 new bots to rescue. It seems players can look forward to a water/ice level and a jungle-themed level, complete with Donkey Kong-style wooden barrels. Stellar Blade‘s Eve and what seems to be four different Helldivers make up some of the new VIP bots that players will get to rescue when the Astro Bot update drops.
Astro Bot Free Update Coming This Fall
While Astro Bot fans wait for the update, they can make sure that they’ve collected all the VIP bots that are currently in the game. Astro Bot has over 300 bots to rescue in total, with 169 of those special characters from other PlayStation games. An additional four VIP bots can be added to Astro Bot for those willing to play through Astro’s Playroom, bringing the total to 173.
Considering Astro Bot‘s rave reviews, it will be interesting to see if the new update coming this fall is the end of support for the game or if Team Asobi has even more up its sleeve. While this coming update is free, one has to imagine that there would be some worth to doing paid DLC. After all, there are some major PlayStation characters that are not represented in Astro Bot, like Insomniac’s version of Spider-Man, for instance, that people would definitely pay to have in their game.
